Fire marshals who keep your people safe
FCS Group provides fire marshal services and fire watch hire across the UK and Ireland, with trained fire marshals for construction sites, events, offices, warehouses and industrial sites. Whether you need one marshal for a day of hot works or a full team for a large event, we plan the cover around your site, your fire risk assessment and your budget. You get a named account manager, clear fire logs and one number to call.

The basics
What does a fire marshal do?
A fire marshal is a trained person on site whose job is to prevent fires and keep people safe if one starts. They check fire exits, escape routes and fire-fighting equipment, look for hazards such as blocked doors or unsafe hot works, and raise the alarm quickly.
If there is an emergency, marshals guide people out, sweep their area and report to the assembly point. In England and Wales, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to appoint competent people to help with fire safety, and many sites use dedicated marshals to meet that duty. For when you need a fire watch after hot works or an alarm fault, and what it costs, read our guide to fire watch in the UK.

Fire marshal FAQs
A fire marshal helps prevent fires and keeps people safe. They check fire exits, escape routes and equipment, watch for hazards, raise the alarm and guide people out during an evacuation.
In England and Wales, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to appoint competent people to help with fire safety. Similar duties apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Your fire risk assessment shows how many you need.
A fire watch is a dedicated patrol by trained marshals when a fire alarm, sprinkler or detection system is out of action, or when the fire risk on site is higher than usual. They look for signs of fire and raise the alarm straight away.
Yes. Our marshals watch welding, cutting and grinding work and check the area after the work finishes for smouldering materials.
Industry guidance says a continuous fire watch should stay in place for at least one hour after hot works finish, with further checks after that. This comes from the Joint Code of Practice on fire prevention on construction sites and HSE guidance (HSG168). Your hot work permit and fire risk assessment set the exact time for your site. Our guide to fire watch rules and costs explains it in more detail.
Yes. We provide fire marshals for concerts, festivals, venues and corporate events, working alongside your stewards and security team.
It depends on your site size, layout, number of people and fire risk. Your fire risk assessment is the starting point, and we can help you plan the right cover. Our guide on how many fire marshals you need explains the common ratios and worked examples.
In most UK workplaces, yes. Both names describe a trained person who helps prevent fires, checks escape routes and leads the evacuation in their area. Some organisations call staff volunteers fire wardens and use fire marshals for dedicated or contracted cover.
Fire marshal and fire watch duties on their own do not need an SIA licence. If the same person also guards the site against unauthorised access under a contract, that is security guarding and needs a licence. All our security guards are fully SIA licensed and trained, so we can cover both roles on one site.
In many cases, yes. Call us with your site details and we will confirm the earliest start time.
