Care home staffing

Care home staffing and security from one trusted provider

FCS Group provides care home staffing and care home security services for residential care homes, nursing homes and supported living services across the UK. We supply support workers to fill shifts on a planned rota or at short notice, and SIA-licensed security officers to protect residents, staff and visitors.

Many care providers find nights, weekends and sickness the hardest shifts to cover, and some also need a calm, professional presence at reception or overnight. We plan cover around your home, your residents and your rota. You get a named account manager and one number to call, day or night.

The basics

What is care home staffing?

Care home staffing means bringing in trained workers from an agency to fill gaps in your rota, whether that is one night shift, cover for a holiday or a regular block of hours. Agency support workers help residents with daily living and activities, working to your care plans and under the direction of your senior staff.

Care home security is different. It means placing an SIA-licensed security officer at your home to manage the front door and visitors, protect residents and property, and support staff if a situation becomes difficult. Some homes need both, and we can supply them together under one account.

You always know what happened

Our security officers log every shift and report incidents in writing, so managers always have a clear record.

One point of contact

A dedicated account manager handles rotas, changes and questions, with a fast response when you need extra cover.

Checks and compliance

Checks for care home staff and security officers

Every care home must be sure that the people working with its residents are suitable, and that includes agency staff. Under CQC Regulation 19, checks can be carried out by an agency, but the care home must assure itself that they are complete. We work with you so you have what you need before a worker’s first shift.

  • Care and support workers who provide personal care are eligible for an enhanced DBS check with an adults’ barred list check
  • Other care home staff with regular contact with residents can have an enhanced DBS check
  • Every care home security officer holds a valid SIA licence
  • Identity and right-to-work checks before anyone starts
  • A briefing on your home, your routines and your emergency procedures

Tell us which checks and training your home requires and we will confirm them for each worker before they start. GOV.UK explains the DBS checks for adult social care roles.

FAQs

Care home staffing and security FAQs

An agency support worker is a trained care worker supplied by an agency to cover shifts in your care home or service. They work to your care plans and under the direction of your senior staff, for a single shift, a block of shifts or a regular rota.

Care homes use security officers to control who comes in, manage visitors out of hours, protect residents’ belongings and support staff if a visitor becomes aggressive. A security presence can also help during building work or after an incident.

Yes, if they are supplied by a security company. In the UK, contracted officers who guard premises against unauthorised access, theft or damage must hold an SIA licence. All our security guards are fully SIA licensed and trained.

Care workers who provide personal care are eligible for an enhanced DBS check with an adults’ barred list check, and care homes must be satisfied that agency staff have been properly checked. Tell us your requirements and we will confirm the checks for each worker before their first shift.

For security officers in London and other big cities we can usually be on site within 2 to 3 hours, depending on availability. For care staff, tell us the shift you need and we will confirm cover as quickly as possible. Planned shifts can be booked in advance.
